The troubled former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is the target of a lawsuit brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, which has decided to withdraw the case from the Court of Appeal.
The Kogi State High Court’s ruling has superseded the filed application, according to the EFCC, which is why the notice of withdrawal was sent.
This was disclosed in a court action that J. S. Okutepa, SAN, and others filed on Tuesday at the Court of Appeal Abuja judicial division on behalf of the Commission.
According to the commission, on April 17, 2024, Justice Jamil J., a judge of the Kogi High Court, decided the matter under appeal.
As a result, the EFCC informed the court that the notice of appeal was filed too late and that it was now pleading for the appeal to be dismissed for being both incompetent and filed too late.
According to Platinum Times, the EFCC intensified its efforts on Tuesday to pursue charges against Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, for allegedly embezzling public funds.
The EFCC has also issued a wanted list for Bello, who is suspected of stealing over N80 billion from the Kogi treasury.
