Friday saw Leicester City promoted to the Premier League as a result of Leeds United’s devastating 4-0 loss to rival Queens Park Rangers. With two games remaining, Leicester City leads the Championship with 94 points, while Leeds is still in second place with 90 points, having played one more game. With three games remaining, third-place Ipswich Town can surpass Leeds to secure the second automatic promotion spot with 89 points.
After finishing third from the bottom in the Premier League the previous season, Enzo Maresca’s Leicester City were promoted on their first attempt.
They travel to Preston for their opening match of the season on Monday, and they host Blackburn for their season finale on May 4. If Coventry wins their home game on Tuesday and Ipswich defeats Hull on Saturday, Leeds will finish outside the top two. If Ipswich wins both, Leeds will have to make the playoffs, and Ipswich will be promoted.
Sam Field, Lucas Andersen, Lyndon Dykes, and Ilias Chair all scored goals on Friday to give QPR the win and secure their place in the English second division.
