Lukman Teriba of BetNaija won ₦16.7M with just ₦1,000 and only ₦3M.

Lukman Teriba, a Nigerian gambler, has made a startling discovery, stating that he was only paid N3 million despite winning an incredible N16.7 million on a N1,000 wager on 37 games with BetNaija. The betting community is incensed by Teriba’s bittersweet victory, and the credibility of the well-known betting site is being questioned.

Teriba claims he made 37 accurate predictions about the results of sports, with a meager N1,000 wager turning into a whopping N16.7 million in wins. But he was told the money was already taken out of the betting shop when he showed them his winning ticket. Teriba persisted and took the issue up with BetNaija’s head office, where the management stepped in and convinced their agent to give Teriba his money. Teriba asserts that the agent, in spite of their agreement, only paid him N3 million—a significant fraction of the N16.7 million he had legally obtained.

Online critics have drawn attention to the fact that this is not a unique instance and have claimed that BetNaija has a history of refusing to pay out wins to fortunate players.

There are even those who claim that the National Lottery Regulatory Commission ignored these kinds of activities and let gambling companies run their businesses unchecked. The controversy over the supervision and control of Nigeria’s gambling sector has been rekindled by Teriba’s tale. To make sure that gaming companies fulfill their obligations and distribute wins in full, without undue delay or manipulation, many are advocating for more stringent regulations.
